Had the opportunity last evening to get my hands on a 73 D25 archback and play it for a few minutes. The difference in tone between the mahogany and the spruce topped guitars is quite striking. It was nice, but it didn't wow me like the spruce top does. The neck had a heavier feel as well. Again, not bad, just different, and fun to play. Super happy with my 79, glad it found me.

So if anybody is looking, Twin Town Guitars (Minneapolis) has a 73 D25 on the wall (not listed on the website).......

Yup, pretty different beasts, Brick! And, yes, it seems like most folks have a preference. Glad you have the opportunity to try both. The old ones just aren't that common any more.

Having said that, all, solid-mahogany versions of the D-25 were built as GAD/100-series guitars (MIC) for several years. They're not the same, of course, as the old original D-25s, but they are worth a look (in my opinion). I tried a 12-string version of the GAD25 and really liked it (years ago).

Tallyho!
