I was poking around the Guild website and saw two comments that were new to me although they might be a couple years old by now.

First the website has an asterisk on specs that says "*This is a running spec change to comply with CITES regulations. "

This seems to me to provide notice that specs will change in response to market and legal conditions and the visitor from the future who relies on the published specs may be disappointed.

Second https://guildguitars.com/faq/#toggle-id-3 has some CITES comments.

"We guarantee that all Cordoba/Guild guitars are imported legally, complying to all CITES regulations. You don’t have to worry about CITES unless you decide to sell or trade your guitar abroad. The proper CITES certification will be your responsibility and failure to comply may lead to forfeiture and sometimes destruction of the item. You may still travel with your guitar without certification as long as it has less than 22lbs of regulated materials. "

With all the virus stuff going on, I can't imagine there's much impetus either way for customs officers to be worrying too much about guitars and CITES. But, good catch, Fro.

By the way, even if it was unstated back in New Hartford, they dealt with spec changes for wood because of (at the time) European customs. I know they were looking at different species of mahogany even at that time. And, I think they may have (silently) ended up shipping different wood to Europe than locally in the US. It's certainly good if CMG is upfront about all that.

I'm not surprised and it makes good sense to any lawyers on staff or retainer, but it is nice to see "running spec change" called out explictly. There will be some people who obsess over which woods who are not going to be happy but...
