I believe this to be a factory experiment, as mentioned in this post by Hans. There is some text I don't fully understand that's written with the same rotary engraver often used for dates (and then traced over in black marker). As best I can decipher, it reads:
6000 Turns
44.5 Poly
7000 (?)
It measures out a hair over 6.8k with my pocket meter. I had it installed in a guitar for a while and, to be honest, I'd describe it as pretty typical HB-1 tone (not that that's a bad thing!). It doesn't have a wiring terminal, but you shouldn't have any trouble soldering the leads directly and insulating. No tarnish, very light scratches:

Let's say $150 mailed to you on this one (CONUS)

My guess is that's a poorly written omega, which would make the writing 7000 ohms, which 6.8k is really close to.

Cool pickup! With ring that's a good deal.

Is this possibly an early XR-7 pickup experiment? X=Experiment, R= Resistance, 7 = 7000 ohms.

I guess that's possible. I always had the impression that the XR-7s were fairly high output pickups, though.
