One of my kid's grade-school teachers has a five year old daughter who desperately wanted a guitar so they bought this on Facebook for $40, then posted to a local mom's group that it had a broken string and could anyone help. My wife volunteered me because she knew I wouldn't be able to resist. I took it, cleaned it up, tightened the tuners (every single one was loose), polished the frets, fixed the action, put on some extra-light nan-web strings, and now it plays like buttah, though it looks like the last person to put strings on it used a hammer to get the pins in after not understanding how they worked.
I threw in an extra pack of strings, an extra Snark tuner, a pile of picks, and told the parents to have her thank me when she gets her first Grammy.
Nothing gets me going like encouraging an enthusiastic kid. I was, however, a bit sad that it wasn't the pink sparkle model.
