So my wife's new SG came in one of those brown/pink '90s Gibon cases, which is pretty nice, however, the arched plywood top has come loose from the thin rim around the edges. It seems to still be tight through the neck area, but I believe the whole body perimeter is loose and really only held in place by the tolex. I don't mind being a little destructive with the tolex, but is there a good way to reglue the top of the case to its rim? Seems like the rim itself must be pretty thin, looking at the outside edges of it, which made me start wondering exactly how they're constructed underneath the tolex. Should I just pull up the tolex around the edges, try to squeeze some wood glue in there and run some wide masking tape as tight around it as I can get it? Is that enough clamping pressure? Seems like it'd be nearly impossible to actually clamp the rim to the top, rather then just drawing the top down against the whole thing and hoping for a bond. It's sprung up a little and feels like it closes back up when you squeeze it.

Just a late night guess and I'm not firing on all six right now.... but I would think the way to fix it is from the inside. Take up the lining and the padding and try to reglue (hot glue) the top back to the edge and then put the padding and lining back? That's usually how you fix stuff like that.... from the inside out. They make them and then put the padding and lining in last. So to repair, you reverse the steps? That's what I'm thinking. I'll just revisit this tomorrow morning after some sleep. But that's how I'd approach it. :very_drunk:

Approaching from the inside might be smart, but I'm not sure hot glue would provide adequate bonding strength and would tend to keep the two pieces separated.
