Hi,
My original tuners are completely shot on my 1977 Guild D25M and I wanna get some that look pretty similar but ones with a higher tuning ratio. I know people go for Grovers but I'm not too keen. Any ideas would be sweet as a nut roast!

Thanks people

Did your guitar have Guild logo tuners originally? What type of pattern for the screws? Straight toward the middle of the peghead or 45 degree angle. I have a bunch of tuners of different brands including grovers.

when I had my 81 Guild d-25 the factory keys were schallers- I think thats what's on my f-20 and f-30

that's what an old Guild dealer told me was factory stock

none of my tuners look like Grovers; I had them (grovers) on some Gibsons i used to own

HERE YOU GO.

Of the tuners listed. I've used Grovers, Schallers and Planet Waves auto-trim locking tuners.

I highly recommend the Planet Waves. They stay in tune as well or better than any I've used. Plus, they automatically cut off the string-end when you re-string. You don't need a wire-cutter.

Second-place is the Schallers.

I recently put some "gotoh" tuners on my Alvarez Yairi DY45... that have grover style buttons on them. They are far superior in build and much smoother than your run of the mill grovers. The casting is better and at least you know where the gotoh stuff is made...Japan. Not maybe USA or Maybe China?...but, Japan.

WGA: what do you mean by "shot"? Are the gears stripped, or? The original tuners were open back worm-gears with an adjustment screw, also a couple drops of mineral oil in the gears can work wonders.

Grovers are alot better than they use to be - Thou my personnal favorite is Schaller !
Thou most manufacturers are running to Gotohs ( my Martin OM28v has those )

Hi Jack; I put chrome Gotoh minis on my F212 - work well, look good, and reasonable cost. I don't know why people dis Gotohs. CJ
