Is it too much to ask at today's prices?
Sooooooo frustrating!!! Arrrrghhhhh!!!
Thinking of switching to rounds because of this. Never had a dead round before. But flats...TI (Jazz 324 and 344), Ernie Ball (group IV), LaBella (LTF and DTB), Maxima, D'Addario (Chromes), S.I.T. ....arrrghhh!!!
So far Ernie Cobalt flats have been good to me and I like them. So I guess I will stick with them. TI's are my second favorite, but two packs in two months have had one dead E string and one dead G string. I don't want to have to ask them for a replacement each time I buy.

Thanks.
Yes, I do spin them out before winding them up. Then I stop before the ball end gets in contact with bridge to make sure it isn’t twisted. I unwound and rewound too.

Are you buying from brick and mortar stores or string specialist web vendors?

As Mr. Little has noted elsewhere here, pertaining to classical guitar strings, being really, really old stock is not good for strings. Being coiled up for years and years can do weird things to a string. Web vendors have faster stock turnover.

Do you have a luthier you deal with? My favourite luthier has open stock of many brands of strings and will sell custom sets or individual strings.

Mostly from Amazon, due to their easy returns and free shipping.

Yes, I do have a luthier I use when I get myself into trouble. :ROFLMAO:

He has a lot of strings and has done custom stuff with me before. I got a bad S.I.T. flatwound string from him once, too! But returns are easy with him!!!

I know others have had different experiences, but I've been using Pyramid Golds on my Starfire for years and they have all been consistently good. I could just be lucky....
