I’ve an ‘85 D212 which is awesome (it’s a tank!)

I don’t know if it was always like this or I’ve just been using it more as I’m trying to record a couple songs with it - but I’ve noticed the top couple frets of the fret board have moved very slightly shifting from the bass E to the high E (noticeable but problem 1\32” ish - maybe more maybe less - I’ll have to measure)

It stops about 1/2 down the 3rd fret.

I’ve been keeping them all humidified correctly and this is the only one it’s happened to - my home hasn’t really been hot this winter but I have been using a capo 2-4th fret on it.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks!

Aarfy, would love to help, but I don't understand what you're describing. What do you mean the frets have "moved?" Have frets 1, 2, and 3, gone out of tune, or are you saying the fret wire itself has moved and is jutting out from the neck?

Any way to get any pictures?

the best I can describe it is that the neck itself is still straight but the feet board seems to be “sliding” every so slightly from low - high

I may look like it’s not noticeable but I can feel it when I’m playing

Guild 12s have 2 Truss rods, if I remember correctly. I wonder if one of them is just cranked on tight, and what you are describing to me is the neck is starting to twist ever so slightly?

Do you play at pitch or downtune?

Oh, it's the back picture that I think clarifies what you mean. So somehow the fretboard itself is separating from the neck and sliding on it?

You need to get that to a luthier, Aarfy. I've never seen that happen, but the glue must've given way. That is, if I understand you properly.

Agree with Chamzo - that fingerboard looks to be detached and needs repair.

Thanks guys! I’ll take it to my regular if they’ll take it - not sure why, but many around here don’t like playing around with vintage 12s!

Luthier is booked thru the week but they seem confident in it. Used them for my 1920s parlor guitar and they did a great job - and they’re not scared by a double trussed 85 so I’ll be taking it in next week! Fingers crossed for an easy fix!

It’s good to be back, I’ve been away for a while but have missed this place and all you great folks!
