Hello folks,
Trying to track down a replacement bushing that goes around the tuning post on what I believe is a Grover machine head on this 1971 s-100. I reached out to Grover and they recommended this forum. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Where are you located? Most luthiers should have a drawerful of random bushings from guitars they’ve worked on over the years.

Hello FrankMcG,

Welcome! As Chris already pointed out, there are probably many guitar repairmen that may have the item that you're looking for.
However, there are many different versions that, at first sight, may look alike, but that may not fit your guitar.

From what I've researched I would think that you need the following bushing, but I may be wrong.

BUSHINGS_1.jpg

Maybe you could wiggle out one of the other bushings, so you can compare the 'knurled' part with the one in the photo.
The diameter of the part that goes into the hole is approximately 11/32".
If you measure something else, just let me know and I will check my drawers.

I can help you out with one of these, but if you can find one a little closer to where you are, I'm in the Netherlands, it might be a little easier.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

A quick Google search for “Charleston SC luthier” reveals a number of options. I’m sure if you give them a call to see if they might have something you’ll find the right bushing without too much trouble. Much easier to match if they can see the guitar in person.

The photos attached show the bottom of the bushing measurement and the other one is for the top as you would surmise...do you need the post's diameter? i think it is just under 1/4" or about 6mm. I hope these pics help.

Hans I have tried a local luthiers and no luck. Stewmac doesn't have the tapered ones in stock. Can you give me a price on these bushings pictured above they seem to be the correct ones. I can give you my address for shipping to get an estimate. I would like two of them if you have them.
Thanks again

No, that is not what it is, he runs an instrument repair shop and is usually very busy and usually prefers to be contacted via his website. His prices for vintage and rare to get parts are extremely fair but mind shipping overseas might add a lot as well. Also mind there is holiday time at the moment.

Thanks for letting me know. All good, no worries, I totally understand, I’m not upset…he has been very helpful, as you all have and I appreciate it all!
Eventually I am sure I will get the right part.
All the Best!
