Any one have any experience with those $1-2.00 bone saddles from china on ebay? Are they real bone at that price?

Yup and yup.
At least they sure smell and act like real bone when they're being sanded, etc. If your time is more valuable than your pocketbook, it all kinda evens out - shaping takes time and time is money. But if you're retired and enjoy tinkering, go for it.
