Body size difference

Looking for specs -- Does the D35 have a smaller body than the D50? Is the nut width the same? Ty

Welcome to a great forum, Karen. They both are Dreads and believe both same size. Nut widths could vary. D35 is mahogany back and sides and D50 is rosewood back and sides. Both guitars have Sitka tops.
There will be others who can be more exact. Both excellent guitars me

Welcome. Don't know about nut width, but they're both dreadnoughts, so the body sizes should be about the same. The D-50 is rosewood, the D-35 is mahogany.

....and sizes and shapes vary. Dreadnoughts are usually 15 1/2" at the lower bout, but can vary some, within a particular model and from year to year. Also, while the lower bout dimension may be the same, the shape can vary (as in a slope shouldered dread (ala Gibson J45) vs. a square shouldered dread (ala Martin D-28). on top of that, the body depth can vary as well.

The "standard" nut width for Guild dreads was 1-11/16" thru Hoboken, Westerly, and Corona years, at least. However, there were exceptions throughout the years, some by design, some due to the fact that necks were shaped by hand, and some just because...

Are you asking because you are looking at a D 35 and have played a D 50 so want a reference? I've never picked up any dread and thought it was bigger or smaller than any other. Not talking about slopes here. It is generally the letter/number placed first that determines size and shape, and the number after that denotes the wood type and appointments. If a Dreadnaught is smaller, manufacturers have taken to adding jr to the model designation. All my dreadnaughts fit all my dreadnaught cases.

Welcome, Karen - aside from some minor variations, they should be the same if they were built around the same time. Of course, the D-50 is rosewood and probably has nicer tuners, etc. Again, depends on when and where they were built though. I believe all D35's were built in Westerly, although there may have been some built in Hoboken, the chart says the first year was 1965, and they moved to Westerly in 1966. D50's, on the other hand, have been built at every factory since New York - Hoboken, Westerly, Corona, Tacoma, New Hartford, and now Oxnard, CA.

I love the D50's that were produced in Tacoma.
