Well, I played a D30 today and I was really impressed with the sound of the maple! The guitar was under priced and I realized why when I saw it at the Guitar Center. I ordered it in from their Denver store and on line I didn't see the excessive checking! Oh well, she sings for me and was at the right price. Its just such a beautiful guitar it made me sad to think that it was so poorly cared for. Fortunately no real structural flaws. I played a Taylor 615ce at the store and really liked the sound of a jumbo maple. Although the neck profile on the Taylor was a little thick for my hands. I prefer the slimmer profile of the Guild necks, especially the mid 80's models. The ease of play almost made up for the neck profile. This of course has set me on a new course, The F series Blondes! Any suggestions of models to look at? 1970's, vs, 1980's, vs 1990's? Are there neck profile differences between the 70's and the 80's on the Jumbos too? Looking forward to hearing from you!!
PS I am up to 4 guitars now! My husband has taken to calling me "Guilda" LOL

F50, JF55, or F65ce if you can find one and F47ce. I sometimes wish I'd gone for an F47ce instead of my D60. But I'd want antique burst - not blonde. But I'm a Maple guy through & through. If it's got a Spruce top, I want Maple B&S.

Yes I got it and spent this evening polishing and shining her up. I'll have to learn how to post pictures  I was looking at some of the Jumbos recommended. I noted an F5ce any info on that?

Hi Guilda! The F5CE is a thinner bodied a/e that might leave you disappointed with the acoustic sound, but it sounds superb when plugged in, my partner has one of them. The DCE-5 is a full bodied acoustic with electric capability, and it sounds great unplugged as well.

I've wondered about that D-30. It was listed at the Denver GC for quite a while.

Glad to see it made it into appreciative hands.

A word of caution... don't expect all Guild maple acoustic guitars to sound like a D-30. They're all different, so if you like the sound of the D-30 then stay with the D-30. I let a D-30 (that I loved) go out the door, thinking I could get another similar-sounding guitar. Not so.

Congrats on your new-old Guild!

You mentioned it has finish checking...and you mentioned you are polishing it up. You don't want to fill all those cracks up with polishing goo. Liquids wick into the cracks and get absorbed by the spruce top, which can & will make the cracks bigger. Tread lightly!

Regarding F-50 neck profiles, my '77 F-50 has a rather thick neck. The entire guitar is somewhat "overbuilt" and weighs in at 6.7 lbs

Congrats. I have played that one a few times and it is a great sounding instrument.
