He's not wiping his guitar down, to speed up and increase the mojo.

Yeah, Del sang high harmony for Bill Monroe.

Billy is playing a Preston Thompson guitar.

I saw the Del McCoury Band with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans here at the Smith Center in Las Vegas. That was a show to see, I'll tell you!! Both bands amazing and when they combined it was magical. Got to go back and see everyone backstage because Lisa McCoury was there with Rob McCoury (banjo player) and she and Rob are Don's niece and nephew. Have seen the Traveling McCourys several times since. Always a good show and when they play LV we get together with Rob and Lisa. Fun times!! Del is 81 now and has slowed down a bit, but I can't say his playing and voice have faltered in the least.

Last time I saw the Del McCoury band was in an outside amphitheater, they were the most unpretentious musicians ever. They came out and laid their guitar cases down on the stage, opened them up, and sang around one mic. It was awesome. Besides the McCourys, they have Jason Carter on the fiddle, one of the top fiddle players in the business, he can stand right in there with Alison Krauss.

I shook hands with Ronnie McCoury, hoping some of that mandolin talent would rub off on my hand!

Couple years ago in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium, Billy opened for Del and I was lucky enough to be there. Billy is as good a picker as I have heard.
