Have had several high-end guitars but the smoothest and best I have used to this point are the Guild closed back tuners on a 1983 G45 I got from Richard P.
All six turn and tune like a hot knife through buttah. I realize six more just like them from same time period may not be as smooth but these are. Who made these tuners for Guild in 1983?

I think that this model had Schaller M-6 machine heads. The later G45 models had Grovers.

Thanks JP for information. I did not find anything in my research. I sure like these!

Are we talking about this type with the script logo? I believe they are neither Schaller nor Ping made. Don't know if Hans disclosed the manufacturer yet.

I remember Mark Dronge telling me at an LMG that Guild never used Schaller tuners, because of a longtime dislike of them that his father had. Hans might be able to expound on that.

Mine on the G45 are the smaller written ones like in attachment not the larger block type.
