The Curse of 2016 strikes again.
One of the "second wave" members of Parliament-Funkadelic when the original group began to splinter, but I first heard him as an "informal member" of Talking Heads touring lineup.
If you liked the keyboard work in "Take Me to the River" in Stop Making Sense (and the whole movie for that matter), that was vintage Bernie.

he was a legend, also played with Warren Haynes/Govt Mule a bunch (see: Soulshine from the live album "live with a little help from my friends new years 1999") RIP

I know of Bernie mostly from my alternate life as keys/synth guy. P-Funk! It was so great to see him get broader recognition due to the Stop Making Sense film. I'd planned to attend Moogfest last month in part because he was reportedly gonna be there, but other stuff got in the way. Bernie did attend despite his health: there's a YT clip of him doing some impromptu noodling on a new version of the classic Model D Minimoog. A good chunk of the video consists of a Moog guy explaining to him how to use the new Model D's augmented LFO, but there's some playing too.
