Yeah I know Fri Night in SF like a roadmap of my home town. I wore the grooves out on my first copy. And I always seemed to not play guitar for two weeks after ever listening to it!

Imo, that's it's own thing and it's not really authentic Flamenco w/o the singing/clapping/dancing/storytelling, etc. Afterall, It's street music of the gypsy.

You are right, as only Paco de Lucia is a genuine Flamenco player. I had studied flamenco in my early days as a guitar student, and live in a region where Flamenco music is quite alive : I personally met Manitas where he was living at the time (even played a bit for him [on a steel strings guitar ! ☺️ ]), and I know quite a bit about flamenco music...John Mc Laughlin and Al Di Meola come from modern jazz (not flamenco), and their trio is more Fusion than anything else...
Manitas de Plata himself is differently judged by flamenco lovers (quite a few find him over commercial and don't really admire him)...Others care a lot more.

These days Flamenco guitarists are genuinely outstanding ; Tomatito, Dani de Moron, Vicente Amigo (among many others) are among the most famous or most promising names.

My teacher recommended to listen to prior big names (such as Sabicas for instance).

I have a faint memory of a video of those three warming up before the concert - one of them is concentrating observing and analyzing the piping-systems of the space - while at the same time playing ( warming up ) better than I ever can imagine . . . 😂

Somehow I think it was in Helsinki - but on that I might very well be wrong.
