I have an eBay bid in on a B-50 bass, fretted version, which I'd plan to use mainly unplugged for small acoustic jams. I know that no acoustic bass guitar has the power of a stand-up bass, except maybe a guitarron...but within the envelope of acoustic bass guitars, how do we think this one stacks up? If possible, I'd value a comparison to Martin B-1 and Tacoma Thunderchief.

Yeah I have one B-50 but having never heard the other basses mentioned I wouldn't be able tell you how it compares.

I don't even know how loud the B-50 is as I've never sat across from it!

It seems pretty loud from behind when playing it.

I had a bass player in one of my old groups that played a Guild Acoustic Bass.
Looked like the one you are bidding on.
It was just OK acoustically but I loved the sound when plugged in.
I did get to compare it to a Martin acoustic bass and it was louder than the Martin.
It didn't have as much projection as I thought it shouldhave had acoustically though.
He sold it and went to a stand up bass.

The consensus from previous discussions seems to be that the B-50 is the loudest of the Guild acoustic basses. No one has has ever posted about comparing them to other brands.

My B4 can be heard when playing with a D-25 according to people who are 5-10 feet away but I can usually only hear the D-25 while I'm playing. As noted, everyone expects the B-50 to be louder than a B4.

Re: B-50 bass wanted

Dang it! I lost that auction...someone wanted it more than I thought, and sniped me. However, I have made up my mind that if I'm going to have a bass, it has to be a B-40 or B-50...anyone have one to sell?
