Call it a funeral at sea for the U.S. Navy's Sea Shadow. The stealth ship, which served as an inspiration for the supervillain's supervessel in the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies," is set to be dismantled and recycled. No buyers....imagine that?

So when that was built 'stealth' technology was research and development. Folks used instrumentation radars to measure objects and models to verify the theory. Not too many companies made instrumentation radars but I worked for one of them. This is not one of those "if I told you I'd have to shoot you" things since I'd probably just end up in jail if I told you

Seriously? I'd be VERY surprised if it was actually offered for sale, even if it's obsolete. Even if sale was restricted to "approved" buyers, I'm thinking it would be pretty hard to prevent it from eventually being sold into undesirable hands.
I'd think potentially WAY too many nefarious types who'd like to see what it had, like surface coating, construction techniques, and copy it. Smugglers in particular come to mind.
But hey, I'm just guessing.

So take the time and actually follow the link or check Wikipedia. The Navy has been trying to sell or give it away since 2006. Much of the technology was declassified in the 1990's because the Navy wanted to continue to use the Sea Shadow for hydrodynamic research but they couldn't do that in daylight when the stealthy aspects were classified. As much was we would like to think otherwise - after all the Navy is a branch of the Government - the Navy is not stupid and there would be no national secrets compromised by the sale. I'll even go out on a limb and suggest that there were more secrets compromised when the chopper crashed in Bin Laden's compound than would be if the Sea Shadow was sold.
