I am new anyways I have been looking for one of these guitars for a year. So I take it they are very rare. Does anybody own one or have information if they come up for sale often?

Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda. Local store had one on the wall for the longest time, probably coulda scored it for under 1,000 clams, but didn't have the clams at the time. He finally listed it on e-bay and sold it.

I will tell you, when I strapped it on I found it very difficult to play because the neck/headstock end of the axe was so heavy it kept pulling toward the ground. I spent more energy holding it up with my left hand than playing it, that's what really soured me on this one. Maybe it was poor placement of the top strap pin, and it was a kinda slippery strap, but be aware of the fact that the head end weighs more than the body.

HeHeHe! :) Oh, Graham, you.

We'll all keep our eyes open for you, guitarmandp. For anyone who hasn't seen one, they look like this :

As I look at it I'm wondering if the 12-string half would be difficult to strum without hitting the six string array. I strum mostly from the wrist, but some somgs want a strum from the elbow, if not the shoulder, and this doesn't look like it will allow that.

Anyway, welcome aboard!
Post well. Post often.

I think I'd want the 12 on the bottom, maybe. Then again, I don't like the "jangle" of 12's(for me, some people make them sound interesting, I'm not interested). Nothing like the beauty of the 4 pairs on a good Mandolin! :)

I haven't seen one on eBay in a year other than one on a non US site.

This guitar must be super rare.

Slash usually plays one with a 6 string acoustic on the top and a 6 string electric on the bottom although he owns both. Here is slash playing one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gArAlu1qZTk

I actually made a deal with somebody to buy theirs for 3 grand last year but then a freak accident happened where a kid knocked over the guitar as it was being stood up for pictures and broke the headstock off.

They start throwing in a new Crossroads with a VW & sales would pick up.

Judging by the number of Slash VW guitars I see on Craigslist it'd probably be good for the used Crossroads market too.

what really sucks is that guild is refusing to build me a crossroads saying they nolonger take "custom orders".

Found this a few months back while "researching" Chinese guitar factories.

Why restrict yourself to just two necks,

Just wanted to bump this thread. I have finally found one of these guitars on ebay. I won the auction and sent payment and I received an email telling me the guitar shipped yesterday. I can't wait!

Hello guitarmandp,

If you're 'the-cash-man' well ........... congratulations!

The one you got was finished in the Custom shop on Sept. 9, 1999.

So that makes it a 9-9-99 guitar! That must mean something!

Hope you will enjoy it!

Sincerely,

I am the cash man and hopefully on friday I will have this guitar :)

It was frustrating because I wasn't sure if I was ever going to find another one. It took me 2 years of waiting.

I had already agreed to buy one two years ago and then before the guitar shipped the headstock broke off the 12 string neck in a freak accident which killed the deal.

Anywas, I wonder if anybody besides Slash owns the version with the 6 string acoustic on the top and 6 string electric on back.

Hello guitarmandp,

Slash had several of these made over the years. 'Double Sixes' as well as 'Six & Twelves'.
Don't know if he kept them all.

I'm not 100% sure about the Green 'Double Six' in the video though. I do know he has a couple of Green 'Six & Twelves' but that 'Double Six' is probably a Blue guitar. It might be the yellow stage light that makes it look Green ............. and maybe I'm entirely wrong!!!!!

Sincerely,

That one in the video is definitely green because he played that same guitar in Phoenix and Tucson. Below are some pictures. The only difference is that the one he played on stage has a 6 string on the top instead of a 12 strings. He calls his green guitars "godzillia";

I know one of his crossroads that had 6 string necks was stolen.
