I'm just not sure why people hate Elixir strings so much. Not so bright at first... then they break in and sound great. Then they last a LONG TIME. It's just a hate campaign that i don't understand. But what you want. String what you want.... jeeze....
I have nothing against Elixir strings, and to be honest, if I were playing gigs on tour, they probably would be my go to strings. But as it is, I don't play gigs and I don't tour, so playing at home, I have a certain acoustic tone that I am looking for, and Elixirs don't provide that. I would only hope that they could, because who wouldn't like to be able to get the same tone on a set of strings for six to nine months. They don't though, and the loss in high frequencies, and in many cases, in the mids, is not acceptable to me. If they provide the tone you want, then by all means, use them. I have no issues with other people using them, and I wouldn't even try to dissuade others from using them; I can only decide what sounds good to me, not for others. They can decide for themselves. I was using GHS Signature Bronze strings at the time (Laurence Juber lights then, Americana series now), and the sonic difference was extremely noticeable to me. and not in a good way for the E;ixirs. So, simply, I chose to use the strings that sounded best to me. How somebody percieves that, is up to them, but having a preference for a better sounding string in my book is not "hatred". I don't like a lot of strings, that doesn't mean I hate them, or that they are "bad" strings, they just don't have the sound I am looking for. Or are you suggesting that people purposely buy strings that don't sound good to them, just because of their marketing hype/features/current popularity?

I did, but I never got the strings. Just as well, I am a D'Addario user and don't really like Elixir strings anyway. I tried them once. That was enough.

Long lasting strings and all solid woods is my recipe, as I dislike changing strings ; only all solid woods guitars can still sound good with strings getting too old, and Elixir and Martin (old Lifespan) worked well for me (haven't used Martin newer ones yet)...I usually leave it to what's available, or at what price if both are...Never used D'Addarios coated strings (or even STD when it comes to steel acoustics) so far. Their cheapest (I think) nylon strings have been the less good I played (against Augustine and Savarez).

Now they are distributed by Guildamaha, I would recommend Savarez Alliance Forum (for those who use nylon strung guitars - about the only strings I've played that sound second to no-one, it seemed to me -). No affiliation, but if they want me to test, I'm okay :giggle: (Yam will surely make their own very soon though  )

These Elixirs have been sounding pretty good to me lately. They seem to have settled in nicely after about a week.
I think Elixirs are great, I just don't like the coating shedding that happens to the strings over the sound hole. But I always liked both the polys...

No shedding yet but that was one of the things I didn't care for when I've tried them in the past. I think these are the polyweb (?). I didn't pay much attention to the packaging but it was purple.

Hmm, my recently purchased Nanowebs had purple boxes, so I'm not sure we can judge by the color of the packaging.

FWIW, I've never noticed any string shedding. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it hasn't happened for me, and I have a lot of guitars with Elixirs.
