I was reminded earlier of this film of Rick Danko and his lovely old Guild. Apologies if you've seen it before.

Apologies ............ for what? Will never get enough of that!

The Band and Los Lobos are my all-time favorite bands!

and for the people who think that Ryan Adam's Guild is gnarly looking ......

take a closer look at Rick Danko's F-50

Actually, I had a chance to play that guitar while doing the research for the Guild Book. It was a great sounding guitar!

Sincerely,

I"m an enormous fan of the Band, probably seen the Last Waltz 12 or 15 times. And read Levon's book, too.

Well, I really like the little I've heard. I love "the weight" and "the night they drove old dixie down" but that's all I know. What are their other signature songs?

"THE BAND" by The Band.

All-time greatest American album !

If I was allowed only one album on my desert island, this would be The One.

And yes, I know they were Canadian, except of course for Levon Helm.

PT - "It Makes No Difference," "Acadian Driftwood," "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Shape I'm In," "Stage Fright" - are a few of the best.

But the whole body of work is consistently good, not to mention the classic stuff they did as Dylan's studio and road back up band.

The live stuff is really special, not just LAST WALTZ but also ROCK OF AGES and with Dylan on BEFORE THE FLOOD. The latter has the all-time best version of "Night They Drove Old Dixie Down."

Robbie Robertson and Garth Hudson are truly amazing musicians.

Don't forget "Tears of Rage" - holy (blank) does that song make hair stand on end.

I know this is pathetic self-promotion, but rootsy-folk-country-rock fans might be interested in my endeavors in the world of American music:

Maybe you'll like it; maybe you'll hate it, but it's worth a shot.

For Guild content, almost all the acoustics on the record are Guilds (DCE-1, F44, and an F30r-ls).

I'll shut up now.

Woooa. Robbie with a Guild. Very COOL pic, Graham! Is that from an album?

When I think about RR, the only images I had is him with the Strat and the big Gibson harp guitar gizmo he used to do the LAST WALTZ theme.

Nice songs on your site, Plaid. You have great taste in music - The Band - and guitars - the F-44.

Funny I saw this a few days ago and posted it on the Fender/Guild DP. I had just finished "Across The Great Divide", a great bio of The Band, and read about Danko dying in his sleep, so this video really gave me chills, especially the "wake up dead" line. Danko's voice is just inrcedibly expressive and not in the usual way.

I discovered the clip was taken from this DVD:

I just got it and it is without a doubt a must-see for fans of The Band.

Hi Hans,

Is that the same guitar Robertson's holding in one of the photos in Levon Helm's "This Wheels on Fire" (I'm assuming you've read the book) -- looks like it may have been taken during the recording sessions for the "brown" album.

Hello jciampa,

Sorry, but I do not know since I have not read the book. Maybe I should!

The photo was most certainly taken during the brown album sessions.

Beneath the photo it quite clearly states: "Recording Rag Mama Rag".
