This one of Buddy is pretty cool too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hG4NU4pdlk
But that's a more "modern" Starfire 4 with stop tail piece and HB-1s (wrong, see Hans' correction, they are XR-7s.)

To me Buddy with the old 60ies Starfire IV with the screaming Guild mini humbuckers was better:

Well, that more 'modern' Starfire 4 is from the early '80s and it has XR-7 pickups, not HB-1s.
And by the way, that's the same guitar that he's using in the first ( Sao Paulo) video!

Buddy Guy was always cool ...... whatever guitar he was playing!

Buddy and Junior were such a great team! One of my most treasured LPs is Southside Blues Jam with Otis Spann.

Those XR-7 pickups sound pretty good to me. Are they stock or an aftermarket modification?

Cheers

Buddy is cool for sure but that Nick Cave song made me want to hear more. That's the type of song writing I've been trying to aim at personally. To get out of boxes and schemes. I don't know why I've never listened to Cave's records properly but I'm going to!

Emphatically not !! That was just plain, bloody awful !

I have to agree with you. I know we all have different tastes in music (and that's a good thing) but listening to that made me want to put the poor guy out of his (and mine) misery
LOL! Guys, give it a couple of more listens and I 'm sure it will grow on you!

Nick Cave has a very broad palette in his music & some of the more abrasive extremes of it I guess offend some sensibilities (& understandbly so - here is a tip, DO NOT check out his work with The Birthday Party!!).

Saying that I also think he is one of the best balladeers in music. Check out this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNoSL1pZyH8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYbOHXMtelU
or what many rate as his masterpiece, The Boatmans Call (full album): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcKYaf0LW2g

Thanks for the link. I love NickCave & The Bad Seeds - must have seen them 7 or 8 times at least. I also saw The Birthday Party on Black Friday, May, 1983.

The Bad Seeds are one of the best combos in the world for me & all the players are great - they are such a fantastic unit..
Mick Harvey is (well actually now "was") the consummate "right hand man" & I have seen that Starfire in other concert footage. Warren Ellis on violin is also legend in his own right & his own trio The Dirty Three are well worth checking out.

The first time I ever heard Nick Cave was the song below, from the band that turned into The Birthday Party, The Boys Next Door. Written by the guitarist Rowland S. Howard - just love this song - do you know it?
