an old m-65 on the bay

a 50's m-65 with the clear tone and volume knobs. Looks nice! the seller has horrible pictures of it though, looks like cell phone pictures.
but does it have a toaster PU? Never seen one on a guild. Are those any good..? I was under the impression that toaster pickups in general are not so great. besides rickenbackers

That pickup is a DeArmond single coil with no adjustable pole pieces, similar to what came with lots of different Harmony and Silvertone guitars among others. It came pre wired to a tone and volume knob and output jack with metal knobs, all of which Guild used. I haven't heard that particular style, but I've heard many similar types, this type are supposed to sound great, and that has been my experience with pretty much every old DeArmond single coil.

They don't sound anything like Rickenbacker pickups, and if the pics were better, you'd see that they don't have a "toaster" design (although there is another DeArmond style that does). These are more midrangey and have more bite and output like a hot P90.
