Hi Folks. .... I' finding it difficult to find any info on my guitar. I need to sell it but I'm having no luck ascertaining a price as I cant find my guitar listed on any Guild site. The guitar was made in Westerly RI. The serial no.is DF102134. The label calls it a". G37 Amberburst". The only "burst" effect is on the back, which is a beautiful one-piece flame maple. (arched) The neck is three-piece maple as well. Unlike the "blond"Guilds I've seen, this has pearlish inlay and a crown on the headstock. It'san exceptionally fine guitar that I believe is worth more than what I see g37s going for.It sounds and plays more like a $3,000 guitar. AND, It's beautiful! When I bought it used in 1982, I thought this should be a country chick's guitar.... It's just too pretty. I was hoping someone could help me with a price, and the year it was made. Thanks eversomuch, ~ James.

James,

Welcome to LTG. My best guess is your guitar was built in late 1985, you can check Guild Guitar's site here: http://support.guildguitars.com/2012/da ... _Guild.pdf

Sunburst G37s are less common that the blondes, but I wouldn't say they are more sought after or necessarily more valuable. I could be wrong. We'd all be interested in seeing some pictures of yours.

Here are a couple pics of my Sunburst G37, does your look anything like mine? I shopped for quite a while before I found this one. If memory serves me right, prices at the time were running between $600 - $800/$850. I found this one in Bend Oregon for $500.

Welcome, James. 8)

Does the label actually say "amberburst"? If it just has the letters "AB" after the model name, that may mean "antique burst".

Post a couple of photos, if possible . . . yours sounds like an interesting guitar.

Hello James,

Welcome! Your probably mistaken about the date that you bought your Guild G-37 Amberburst, because this particular guitar was made at the very end of 1986. It is finished in what I consider one of the nicer Guild finishes of that particular period. Other than the somewhat less common finish color your guitar is a regular G-37, but I don't think that it should bring more money because of this finish.

Here's a photo of an F-20 Amberburst from that same period that should give the people, who have never seen this finish, an idea what it looks like:

Welcome to LTG...

Amberburst would be a less common (and REALLY attractive) finish for a G-37...that might be desirable to some buyers (I'd love to have one in that finish... but already have a G-37).

On the other hand, I don't think you should set your sights too high. I paid just ~$550 for my '74 G-37 Bld, in V Good condition. I've seen a lot of late '70s G-37s sell on eBay in the range of $650-800. You'll see them on Gbase in the $900-1200 range, but some of them have been posted at that price for a long time, and who knows what they really sell for. Depending on condition, a good eBay price might be $750-800, a private sale might bring a little more... but it's not a $3000 guitar.

In the end, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay... good luck. When you get serious about selling, you might post it here on LTG (in the F/S section).

Wow, that is a nice finish and not that expensive! Really beautiful looking guitar. For me a tabacco burst and amber are the best looking guitars around.
