Outside an original Astrojet and a Corvette I never played a vintage Gretsch.Gretsh, the other Geetar.
I have never lucked out when it comes to Gretches. I found Corvettes to be a little iffy compared to an SG, like a kids guitar.
The pawn shop/music store Gretsches were always either ancient and in really bad shape or crazy high priced.

Careful though, they're a bit addictive (like Guilds). I had to have a Duo Jet in each flavor.
How's the Floating Sound Unit? Never played one, or seen anybody keep it in place. Sort of a morbid curiosity for me.

If I remember correctly it has “blacktop” Filtertrons. I have no idea if they’re close to the old Filtertron pickups.@mushroom: Is that "floating sound unit" the gizmo between the bridge & bridge pickup? I assume that was one of Jimmy Webster's wacky creations.
@Rambozo96: What are the pickups on your new Gretsch?
