I'm just back from 11 days of travel--my longest vacation in at least 16 years, and my longest time without a guitar in about four. So naturally when I got home I was very eager to play. But which guitar? Of the options available, I instinctively and immediately reached for the F47R. And I think that's telling. It's not my best-sounding guitar (that would be one of the Orpheums). But, of what I have, it's the best combination of comfort, playability, beauty, sound, and sheer Guildiness.

Playability and overall comfort are a more important consideration to me than tonal nirvana. They're the primary factors that will pull me towards a particular guitar over and over again.

That said, switching to a tone monster is always a fun diversion!

Let's just hope that Guild puts that F-47R back into production somewhere down the road. I missed the boat on that one.

Such a heart-wrenching story, Jeff. Which guitar to play after being gone on your longest vacation in "at least 16 years." Our collective thoughts are with you in this time of tough decisions. :excitement:

I have to agree! The sound is important, but there are other considerations. My Taylor is easily the most comfortable guitar to play in size and weight, plus short scale and easy playability. And it doesn't sound half bad! I enjoy the big boys, too. "Which one to grab?" is one of my favorite decisions to make!! :encouragement:

I believe this is what is referred to as a "first world problem."

Really was just trying to praise the F47. The "best" guitar arguably is the one you reach for instinctively.

Mine mostly stay in different tunings. Saves wear and tear on strings and my nerves. Many times what I grab is determined by what song I want to play, and what tuning it's in. It's a more fair contest if they're all in standard tuning but kinda limiting......

I just spent two weeks away from where I now live to my childhood home and before I left I had to decide which guitar to bring.

Nothing like sitting on a picnic table at sunset.
