I had a wonderful Guild D-35NT back in the 70's that I loved. I abused it in ways that I find unimaginable today but it kept on rockin' regardless. Enoguh ancient history ...

At any rate, I've been thinking of getting a new Guild lately and I have found a new Guild D-40 BJ for $1199 with Case. It sounds like a great deal to me but my knowledge of late-model Guilds is almost nonexistent.

Does this sound like a good price?

Bill

I'm no expert, but I think that's decent for a new D40. Is it a leftover Tacoma?

Welcome, Bill. Yeah, they sure are sweet guitars :D

Have you looked for a vintage D-35?

Now, about the posting -its not against Forum rules but you're on thin ice talking about Guild abuse

I paid about that in January for my D-40, new off the rack. I think it was a great buy at that price, you'd have to spend an awful lot more to get a better guitar, in my opinion. Good luck.

Great price!!! Think about it: adi top, bone nut/saddle/pins and scalloped bracing. Steal it now.

I missed the reply where the question was asked if this is one of the leftover Tacoma's. Yes, I believe it is.

(Showing my ignorance of late-model Guild's here ...) Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I have a Tacoma-built D-40, and I love it. So I think its Tacoma heritage is a good thing -- but then, I live in Tacoma, so I might be a little biased. :)

Several Tacoma built D40's came thru my local shop & I found a couple others at different shops. I liked every one, light & live. The local shop displayed them along with dozens of Taylors & all sold fairly quickly except the last one, It didn't have quite the magic of the others hung for several months. I seem to remember the shop discounted the price to around (I think) $1100.

A new D55 hung with the D40's, 3 or 4 D40's sold before the D55.
Had I been Guildless likely I would have bought a new D40. As it is, my G37 keeps up, she's a tad on the heavy side, but she keeps up.

Since I asked, I'll chime in. I've limited experience, but the rep seems to be that Tacoma's compare favorably with Westerly & Hoboken, while Corona's can be excellent or not quite as good, but still better than most of the competition relative to price. But I'm no expert.
