Welcome, Peter! The only problem I find with LTG is that I let it keep me from actually playing my Guilds (like right now!). Also, as per your comment above, I bought (another) Guild this past December, and it too spent much more time in a freezing logistics center than I was comfortable with. However, it arrived in very good shape. Again, welcome from sunny Florida.
Welcome, Petra! And yes, tough juggling my guitar addiction and my LTG addiction. Luckily, no Facebook, Twitter, ecr.
Stick around. Good folk here. And LOADS of knowledge!

Servus Peter,
Welcome to the forum!
I can't tell you anything about Oxnard guitars, but I love my D55 from New Hartford.

Liebe Grüße aus Wien!

Welcome Peter! I have a 2018 Oxnard D-55E sunburst. My previous acoustic was a rosewood Martin D-16RGT. Very different guitars in terms of neck and sound. Took me a while to get used to the D-55 playing acoustically because I felt it projected sound while the Martin enveloped the player in sound. And it wasn't as loud. I shopped Taylors and Gibsons and the D-28, and the guy at Wildwood Guitars in Colorado described the D-55 as "so articulate". I think that's right on. To me the D-28 is warm and muddy compared to the smooth and clear D-55. I think the tone of the D-55 is improving with age. I mostly play plugged into my PA, and the LR Baggs pickup system is superb - I prefer playing plugged in to acoustically, it's so good. But sounds like you may have the non-pickup version. It smells good too. Enjoy!
"It smells good too." YES!

welcome and congrats on the D55.
i also owned an HD-28 one, long time ago, that i never could bond with.

what a great acoustic guitar collection you have had.

Yes Woody,
I‘m blessed with my guitars and with a few more things, especially health these days. After two cancer problems and treatments I‘m aware of my luck every day.
There are 28-guys and non-28 guys! 😁

My friend and I tried out guitars together. He bought the 28. “Muddy” not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe also referred to as “woody”.

Hello Peter, welcome! Over here in Switzerland it's not that cold anymore, hope it's about the same in Austria, so the guitar gets to you in good shape. Looking forward to your NGD!

Hi Ruedi (but you say Ruadi, don’t you?😁)!
it‘s getting warmer, just above zero now. That reduces the wait time to 20 hours. 💪

The toughest hours and the last 6 hours I always unlatch but Never raise case lid. If you are not 100% sure you not raise case lid, do Not unlatch.
Waiting for next SET of pictures and sound report. Great addition!!

I have yet to be disappointed with an Oxnard built Guild. I've owned several different models and all were good. I do a fair amount of buying and selling so I'm down to two right now but I will most likely take those two to the grave.

Welcome to the forum!!!!
Hey, Richard, I don't want to hear you talking about the grave!

I promise, I didn‘t open the case. She came out by herself, really!

The truth: The cardboard was quite warm at arrival and I took the case out. The case was just a little bit cool and after a waiting time of 2 hours I opened it for a second and threw a thermometer into it. Another half an hour later I took a look: 20 degrees celsius (21,5 in my house) - voila! I think that’s about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Setup is just great, I like very little relief and adjusted that. Action is perfect. An easy to play girl.

The sound is as many described it: Clearer than my D-18MD, like a bell. It even reminds me on my two maple guitars. A touch of a 12-string.I wanted exactly that. Happy!
Craftsmanship is wonderful, even better than my 5000,- Euro Dove. Wood grain wonderful. Didn’t find anything bad.
The case is also nice - I assume it’s a fake crocodile, otherwise I would send it back. 😁

I have no idea, what strings are on now. I want to try mediums. Is anyone here experienced with mediums on a D55?
I‘m a happy guy!

Did I say, that girl is BEAUTIFUL? 😻

Welcome Peter. Simply gorgeous D55. Hard to beat that. As good as it sounds now I bet it will open up even more as you play it.

Congrats, that's a gorgeous guitar!

I once bought a D-55 for a very favorable price because the previous owner hated the instrument's tone, & the feel of the strings (hard under his fretting fingers). He was the guitar's second owner, & the first owner had fitted it with medium gauge Elixirs. They seemed to be too high-tension for that lightweight instrument, & choked the sound.

Oddly, he never tried replacing the strings, and simply decided to move the guitar on to someone else.

I replaced them with light gauge D'Addario phosphor bronze strings, and it then sounded/played like a D-55 should.

Guild's New Hartford factory used coated D'Addario phosphor bronze light-gauge strings. Perhaps Oxnard still does the same?

But by all means, experiment to see what suits you best. And enjoy the honeymoon.

Yeah, maybe it will open up and mutate into something even better. :)

geoguy, you are right, Daddario EXP16. Since the guitar weights 500g more than my D-18 I don’t expect problems if I experiment with mediums.

Oh! That's a gorgeous D-55! Wonderful looking wood! Also the wood on the headstock looks great:

If you want to have something between light and medium, try the EJ19 bluegrass strings:

Thanks Bavarian! :giggle:
That headstock is really extraordinary and was the first thing that caught my eyes when I took the guitar out of its case.
That light/medium strings are a great idea! Thanks. I have a few sets her from Elixir and maybe also Martin. Will start with those.
Have a nice evening! Here is a picture that shows the top wood a bit better. This is one of my best!
