My wife and daughter make plans.

First: The Monaco Grand Prix. Typically a pretty boring race recently as the cars are just too big now to pass on that circuit but Alonso is on the front row!!!! This could be magic if he can beat Verstappen off the line.

Next: The Indy 500. It's lost a lot of the Month of May magic as the cars are all the same cookie cutter. No true innovation. So now some schnook from out of nowhere can no longer bring some revolutionary car to the Brickyard....and carburetor day...eh, not in decades.

The finale: Coca Cola 600. Not a huge NASCAR fan but I used to love to watch John Andretti or Tony Stewart run the Indy 500, jump on a plane and then drive the 600 miler at Charlotte.

Me happy!!

I am southern Indy 500 convert. My boss convinced me to attend in the IRL era and I was sold by the size, speed, and history of the spectacle. I too watch will watch all the races today, but Indy is the one I look forward to. I'll never forget my first time in J grandstand when Taps was played. Hundreds of thousands of people around you and not a sound. If you don't shed a tear, you aren't human.

The local track fare was a huge piece of pounded pork tenderloin, lovingly deep fried, and placed on a bun with sliced dill pickle. I am known to make those on race day.

I am pulling for Santino Ferrucci today. I love a good underdog story and the Indy crowd would love to see the 14 car covered in milk again.

It's shortly after 5:00 AM here. As soon as I saw the time, I recalled the 5AM bombs that signal the Speedway area that the gates are open. Cool stuff.

Yummy!!! 😁

Watching Monaco....will occasionally check in on Indy, but not watch the whole thing. Then I'll be out on an evening kayak booze cruise on the Severn River w/ several old friends. When all the day boaters are gone, it's nice to have a gorgeous calm quiet river all to yourself.

I'll get there someday.

My brother in law used to work for BFI in Charlotte. They have a transfer station behind the Charlotte track and we would stay there with 20 other knuckleheads for the 600.

Apparently the track was built on their old landfill per my hosts at BFI.

We took golf carts into the infield at night.

It's so different how spectators act at these races vs other events

Oh I gotta do that!

I picked up three packages last week @$2.99 a lb. My wife doesn't care for it so that will be on the menu next time I'm up here!

Hitting the road soon to avoid the crazies on my 2.5 hour trip back
