That guitar looks exactly like my D-25 (That's because it is) I don't know where the 1978 came from I have always stated that it's a 1987 (It's stamped on the back of the headstock) Whom ever is meeting me tommorrow is going to get a great guitar without any issues. I always wondered about the saddle and nut being so aged looking, that's how it was 10 years ago when I bought it. I checked the neck last night by putting a straight edge on the frets and it just clears the bridge and goes exactly to the bottom of the saddle. The action is perfect and if anything the saddle looks a little on the tall side to me. The fretwear is hardly noticable to the naked eye, I think the flash makes it look worse then it really is. The only reason I am selling it, is to get a fingerstyle with a bigger neck. I love Guilds and hate to sell it. I also own a 1974 F-112 that is awesome. My main dread is a 70's martin D-35 that has great sentintal value that I will never get rid of. To be honest sometimes I think the D25 sounds better I just prefer the big ole chunky neck of the Martin. If anybody out there has a F-30 or a OM body size with a 1 3/4 nut width for sale let me know.

When I read your first e-mail to me, my dyslexia kicked in. And when I looked at the headstock from the pics you sent me, I noticed the date. I will say to everyone that I, not you, made the mistake on the year of the guitar. But as I am not buying this for myself I was trying to be extra carefull and asking for pics and info on the guitar. From everything you sent me, I believe your D25 is a very nice guitar. You will be meeting a real nice guy who is buying it.

I'm glad we both learned something about the Micarta. I myself am shopping for an F30 with my tax return and hope to find one as nice as your guitar is. I will be seeing yours soon, probably next week. I'll let you know what I think of it........

Well, I'm going to "see" the guitar on Friday....so I will prob pull the trigger. I did just find out what the serial number was and its a '88, not a '78, which explains why the body is like mint condition. The nut and saddle have that aged look to them, like they are stained. I will have to inspect it on Friday......wish me luck.

Hello c70man,

That's what I suspected after seeing the photos. It's a Micarta nut, which was not standard in '78.
That 'stained' look is what Micarta will turn into over time. Same thing with the saddle.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Interesting about the micarta, I was always curious about the stained look on my '83 D-25....thought she just had a hard life in some smoke filled bar!!! I guess this is a micarta nut then? (on the right obviously) Thanks...always learning something around this place!

Glad you guys like it I already miss it, It seems have caused a little excitment around here. I offered it in the classifieds 3 weeks back for a great price and only 2 nibbles. I also sold a nice Strat on fleabay so I got some dough. Looking for a GA/OM/000 bodysize 1 3/4 nut fingerstyle. F-30 or F-40 maybe. Love Guilds, at least I have 1 left, time to add another. Who's got something for me. Also considering Martin/Taylor / Larrivee or Gibson. If anybody has anything or knows somebody send it me way!

Thanks in advance,
Chris

That is one sweet looking D25...Congrats!!!
My 86 model has the same fret-board dimples, thats just mojoe.
You should see my old Gibsons a 47-51??? LG-2, and a 72 J45. Their fret boards look like newly plowed fields, and I feel or hear no problems.
MY 86 D25 has the same colored nut, looks like it met up with oxblood color Kiwi shoe polish.
Enjoy.
Dale.

Ok- fret redress probaly should work - about 100-150 ( depends on whom does it etc), the fretboard wear can even be cleaned up a little- but this souldnt affect playing- I would say if this guitar was a couple hundred bucks -buy it , if its 6-8 hundred Id pass. this model is very common and typically you can find decent ones in the 500 range or lower .
heres a pic of a 1979 D-25CH i picked up a few months ago :

Great guitar, congratulations.

Funny thing about peoples perceptions. I'd look at the fretboard & say to myself, "Hmmm, looks like it's just gettin' broken in!"

:)
