I offered this gentleman a trade on this beauty, which he politely declined, cash only. He recognized my last name in my email and remembered dealing with me on golf cars in the past ( my dad and I run a custom golf car shop). He also had a golf car to sell, so I went to check out the golf car. Well, he still had the Guild too. I have bought far too many guitars lately, I had no intention of buying it. He asked what would be my offer for both. I made an offer I thought was too low by a fair amount….as expected, the Guild is headed toward needing a neck reset, he agreed on that point and took my offer. Luckily I may have saved enough to pay for the doghouse I’ll be needing….at least the weather is starting to warm up around here lol

Nice! I too have a ‘74 F50, although mine is slightly different in that it’s an ‘R’. What’s the serial? I wonder how close ours are.

Wow that’s awesome! I love project guitars! Probably half of my collection were projects, though I did the work myself. Really the only way I could afford to have them. I love the figured grain on the back.

I’m not at home to check, I’ll take a look tonight Heath. I remember it is 103xxx I think the last three are in the 800’s.

When I was researching this jumbo, I found there were a lot more 70’s F50Rs than the F50 maple. At least for sale or sold recently

I cut my teeth replacing frets on an old G37. I like the project guitars too! I like my pristine guitars as well, but the played-in-scratched-up guitars have history you can see

Great! I've rarely heard any guitar that sounds better than my '76 F50, so my guess is you've got a winner there.

Congrats on the cool F-50! Hey, at least you tried to resist. :)

Congrats Muckman! Love that tiger maple back. Bet it sounds huge.

I have a 1971 that Tom Jacobs worked on for me. It has a huge voice and I absoluitely adore the guitar. Congrats!!!!

Congrats it's gorgeous!

It is, really, stunning to look at. The strings that were on it were probably 10-12 years old, I just replaced them with some DR Rares this morning. Everything I've read about the Guild Jumbo sound holds true....full, loud, rich tone. I can't wait to see what she sounds like when I get home tonight, after the new strings have settled a bit.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It's nice to be able to celebrate NGD with my fellow GAS sympathizers here on the Forum lol

We should have a contest for best story for the top bruises, unless you know the real one. My worst guitar mishap was the first week I had my 65 Texan. Was trying not to step on an underfoot dog and ran the top into a music stand. Scratch four inches across the darkest part of the sunburst, all the way to the wood. Walked into my luthier and asked any way he could match the other five equally bad scratches that looked really old. Olive oil mixed with fine dirt from a shop vac, and five years of sweat did the trick.

I have a ‘74 F-40.
They were clearly saving the most beautiful wood for your guitar!

is that your F40 in your avatar, Bobouz?........that's a beauty

Yes, it has survived quite well. Here’s a shot of the very plain maple used for the sides & back, but I do like the red mahogany-ish stain. Like I said, you definitely got the good stuff!
