yep, nice sound and playing, but this guy could make a shovel sound great.
why do you never see a comparison with a standard up to date les paul from the rack? I don't believe they would sound dramatically different.

I agree with this. There are some comparison videos on youtube that prove your point. It's the player mostly, IMHO.

My go to story is having a friend of mine who was a very talented guitarist in his teens come over to my house and he picked up a Sears piece of $h1t electric I had and made it sound great. After that, I started to practice more!
