'52 or '53 - Make up my mind already!

So, I bought a cool little lighted Guild Acoustics sign.

But I've had this tshirt for a long time:

That said, if my memory is correct, Hans dates the company to 1952 based upon the incorporation papers. Fender dated it to 1953 either because it was 2002 and they realized they were about to miss the 50th or because they believed the proper date is when guitars started being sold. In any event the difference is a point of contention.

Given that 1953 is the official FMIC position as I understand it, it would be interesting to know if both products were authorized. It says something about FMIC's licensing if they both are.

From what I remembered from Hans' book the company was incorporated in October 1952, but didn't produce guitars until 1953. I don't recall ever having seen a '52 Guild, so I think that's right. :roll:
