Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I am happy to see that I am not alone enjoying Guild's original designs!

Here are my 3 Guilds: an S-300D, an S300AD and a B302.
guilds3.gif

I got the bass first from a furniture dealer  . I enjoyed the shape of these instruments before owning one, but playing the B302 made me realize the quality of Guild's instruments (they are quite scarce in France). I got on the look out for the guitar version and the two S300s were offered to me for a very good price so I couldn't pass them up.

I gig with the S300D and enjoy its tone and its lightness! The S300AD's tone is just as good (a bit darker), but the guitar is quite heavy, so not as pleasant if you jump around the stage all night. It may have belonged to one of the guys in Slade... I play the B302 mainly at home (until I find a band to play bass in), and although its output isn't the strongest, it definetly has the kind of tone I like for bass: very deep but with enough top end for good definition. Its tone is the reason I got two S300s...

Anyway, if any of you have an S70, S60 or S65 to sell in France or Belgium, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Welcome, welcome. Looks like a pretty nice setup you've got there. I've been fawning over an S-300 for a while now too. I don't much care for the DiMarzios, so I've been holding out for one with HB-1s. The B-301/2 is a fine playing bass. Good luck on your quest to obtain more Guilds. You're in good company.

That's the ash!

Good choices and good luck in your search.

Yes stclrob, it is the ash, although I have played another S300AD that wasn't as heavy (but it wasn't as good looking either).

Interesting for solid bodies to have different weights. Mine's pretty heavy, so we'll see qvart's review when he gets his. Burst is my favorite on that model, too!

Yes we will - should be here on Thursday! ('78 S300-A with HB-1's). I've never tried playing one but I'm confident I will dig it given my S-100 addiction! ;)

Nyqusit5 - THAT is one heck of a rock assembly you got there. Welcome to the nuthouse!

NICE! The group will no doubt tell you that I have an S300 problem. :) ...and a SF4 problem... and many other problems they have yet to discover. :) I've owned three S300A-Ds. I LOVE that burst one. Yummy. If you dig the tone from those, you need to try one with HB1s. Sadly I'll have to defer that expertise to Qvart (do you know how much it hurts to say that?)

Very nice collection. Welcome to the fold! We solid-body lovers are in the minority, but we're forming a strong alliance!

Thanks Qvart. Well it's only the tip of the iceberg  . I am a bit of an amp fanatic.

You can check out my website if you want to see more (there are english pages).

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice. There is one amp I'm waiting rather impatiently for and that is the Orange Dual Terror.

The body shape on those guilds reminds me a little of the Rickenbacker solid bodies (I own a Rick 481). You've got some beautiful guitars.

But what really interests me is that you think one of your guitars was owned by a guy in Slade. What makes you think that? Do you really think its true?, or is it more like how George Costanza bought a car previously owned by Jon Voight!

I had to look up wikipedia to know who was George Costanza! Now I understand what you mean  ...

I have no clue if the Slade story is true because it definetly is not first hand! I got this guitar from a nice Belgian guy who had previously bought the guitar on ebay: I had been following up this ebay auction since I was interested in anything related to S300s at the time. Now, the seller of this guitar had a website (and probably still has it up although I can't remember the url) showing his collection of guitars and this S300AD in particular. the website said that he had bought the guitar from a guy in Wales (UK) who had told him that the guitar used to belong to one of the guitarists in Slade.

So you see, I have no hard facts to back it up, to say the least. Then again, there are tons of guitars which used to belong to somebody famous in the UK!
