That's a beaut, richard, and a great price for forum members. Good luck with the sale--I hope it finds a good home.

Thanks. These D/HD 28's are hard to figure out. I've had great ones (this is one of them), so-so ones and terrible ones. I just haven't found the consistency I've become accustomed to with my Guilds. They sure sell the hell out of them though.

Just for clarity, the D-28, HD-28, and HD-28V differ significantly in the way their soundboards are braced. To my ear they have wildly different tones, though they are outwardly quite similar. The V may also have a different neck profile, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, just a heads up.

I always enjoyed my HD-28, which is the model Richard is selling here. Good luck with the sale, Richard.

Color me impressed. I have a couple friends named John but they don't play guitar and no one's likely ever heard of them except me. That must be a very cool thing. He sounds like he must be a pretty decent and down to earth kinda guy.

He's been a good friend over the years, met in high school, joined "my" band, hah! I didn't know the V version was any different than the regular HD but interesting to know. I knew the neck was V shaped though. I believe it was the one he played on Leno when his first album came out.

John Mayer as a bandmate, huh? That's pretty cool, MoJoe!

Oh, and the details of the Martin bracing in the 28 series are that D -> HD goes from straight to scalloped braces, and the V version slides the braces to what I think they call "shifted" ... something like that. A 3-way comparison among these (although I've only done the D with the HD) is a real eye-opening experience which proves how important bracing is in the sound equation. It's almost an apples to apples comparison!

And, now, Richard, once again good luck with the sale.
