Hi everyone, I must appolgise for Gatecrashing and requesting opinion here but Urgency is key in the UK as i have an offer on a 2006 corona F50 above and New F47R-tar for similar money or do i wait for a new F50r Tar as they are another 900 bucks here. As guitars on sale are some distance from me but in the end i know you have to try them But a few pointers would be really appreciated, if you guys have the time, Iam retired and mainly learning and i like strumming and a little finger picking but iam happy, I had a Black F4CE years back but my son was quickly into it.and took it over. I like CSN and Neil and all things musically but them lush Jumbos seem to do it for me, possibly because i don'tuse a plectrum much?
The F47 is a steal but is it reasonably close to the F50R Tar?

Thanks for any promt advice,
Browseruk

Any of these guitars would be worth owning. I like Rosewood and would opt for an F50R myself.
By the way, welcome to all things Guild.

Greetings:

1. A 2006 F-50R would be from Tacoma, Washington, not Corona, California. Either way, it's a fine product.

2. You'll get deeper bass response on an F-50R than an F-47R, but I won't advise you on which of the two would be better for you. I can only say that the F-50R is a fantastic 6-string guitar, and of the two is perhaps better known and more familiar for resale.

3. Difficult to compare new product from New Hartford vs. used, but I can assure you that the DTAR multi-source is a terrific system, but not the reason to pay the extra money for a new guitar. It may make a lot more sense for you in UK to get a new guitar because of the warrantee (which is the real value). You could easily replace the electronics in the older guitar for WAY less money if that's what you want to do.

Best wishes, and welcome aboard.

Thanks Chazmo, i think i will travel and check out the 2006 first as its nearer and i think in truth I do have a fancy the F50's they sound amazing, even though i like some of the Gibson J45's i tried in New York State last year while visiting my son in Albany, but the guilds just do it for me and it will return to the states as I want to pass it on to the boy. price wise there is no
advantage buying in the usa at the moment, but i figure if the F47 R- Tar was real special it would be a lot more than 1800 dollars (its new) where the F50R tar is around 3000 dollars.
The 2006 is 1900 dollars. With case and electrics... looking forward to states in Sept, we have twins being born there so we are getting excited.. Cheers and many
thanks for help

Does Guild offer a lifetime warranty outside the USA?
If they do, a new one would be a good choice.
If not, the 2006 would be my choice.

I think 2 years in UK lots of stuff is only a year here, but i did hear of a few things happening with the F jumbos, finish mainly though some reports of the setting low no adjustment not sure what iam talking about in all honesty. My old guild F4ce has been around the world and when at my sons place, i notice it stays intune and plays very well, has no issues, all i do is change the strings and clean up the frets etc, while in usa and its fine. If I get a new one i can at least get a sunburst they look sensational and are rare here. I tried the martins but what i like are too dear. Although some folk would go for a J200 the guild is special.
Cheers John

Sounds great, John. Keep us posted when you go to see the F-50R. For the record, I have to 2006 F-512 (the 12-string version of the F-50R), and it is simply spectacular.

You may be referring to older Guilds that are in need of a neck reset.
When the neck angle rises from years of string tension, the saddle has to be lowered to keep the action playable. At some point, the saddle will be so low that you loose the break angle and the guitar becomes unplayable. This can and does happen to all brands of guitars. What sets Guilds apart from say Martin guitars is that the neck on a Guild is harder to remove, which is a part of the neck reset. Some Luthiers won't work on Guild neck resets.
Most of the time a reset isn't needed for many years. I have guitars that are over 30 years old and the necks are still straight.

When you are looking at used guitars, always me sure of the neck condition. If the saddle is real low in the bridge, the guitar may be in need of a neck reset.
The cost of a reset can be up to $500.00. Factor this into the purchase price of the guitar.

Just to let you know, I went for the F47R-TAR in the end last saturday, I would have liked the F50 of same spec, but its a bit big for me being older and Iam no great player,so this is a great fit for me amd agains't my dreadnaught a little easier to handle.. Finish is great, with the Red spruce /Adirondack top its a nice touch for me as my son lives near there in NYS, realise its a harder top but in a few years I reckon it will be amazing, will try and post some pictures in near future..its OM shape and deep body is a nice option if you like dreads, price wise I nabbed a bargain price with one tiny mark and a dealer who got the guitar as a one off from Fender, it was cheaper than us prices and came with guild warranty and croc style hard case, TAR electrics not really tried yet but i have a Fender accoustosonic amp so will have some fun soon.
Belated happy new year to one an all.

Sounds like you got a great deal! And thanks for the update. So often we're left wondering how these things turn out.
