I just acquired a 2001(I believe) Guild x-150 single pickup in black. I didn’t know it at the time, and just bought it because I liked it, but it was apparently a special order. I have found the catalogs and it only lists blonde and sunburst. This guitar is in decent shape for its age, it will be improved with careful polishing and full setup and conditioning. The pickup was changed to a Benedetto but I do have the original in the case. I haven’t decided if I want to
Put the stock pickup back in. I’m curious how rare something like this would be, are there others out there? What finish does it have? Nitro or poly?

The serial number is cb000251 if anyone knows how to determine exact production of this guitar. I wanted a Gibson es-175 until I stumbled on the x-150s shocking value in comparison to current Gibson prices. Thank you to anyone with any information!

Welcome to LTG! Based on the serial number, your guitar was made in Corona, CA around 2003. It looks like someone tried to Gibsonize it by putting on speed knobs and Kluson style tuners. The X-150s from that time period are great playing guitars. Enjoy!

That looks very cool congrats. I'm afraid I don't know much about the Corona made X-150s. I've never seen another one like this.

I do actually have the original pickguard, it’s off now as I’m trying to clean it up and polish 20 years of wear and tear off it. Most times a guitar looks cool well used. This pickguard did not! Lol! The tuner buttons are just swapped with plastic keystones. The original Grover’s are also still there. This guitar even though a few things have been changed, and it’s been neglected will be a keeper. It’s cleaning up beautifully and we are bonding very well!

Welcome to LTG! Nice guitar in black! Here is the 2003 catalog page, which does not show black:

The guitar should have had a Fender made HB-1 pickup which you said you still have.

Actually I just checked the 2004 catalog, this one shows black! So your guitar could be later 2003 or 2004 maybe. Hans Moust would most probably know.

This guitar even though it’s still unclear what it really is, is fascinating! I bought it thinking it was a 2001, I’m not even upset a bit. It’s an awesome guitar. Good thing too, because the wife said this will be my last so the fact it was a great one makes that a little less a sting to hear!

Oh, I think it is clear what she is, the open question which only Hans might be able to answer is if she was made in 2003 or 2004 (if that really matters).
Regarding the finish, the catalog shows Nitro.

Somebody has to say it... the original parts that you have would all look better, and while the Benedetto pickup is probably nice the Guild pickup should be a little brighter.

right now is the way it came to me, good news, all the parts including original pickup came in the case! It will all get put right when it gets some of my favorite medium flatwounds 12-52 and a full level, and crown and full setup.

I love my Corona X-150! Yours looks handsome in black, including the pickup, but I'd look for plain black knobs without numbers.
