Well, it looks like this beautiful guitar is going to be a bit of a "catch and release". There's nothing wrong with it really, I just know that it won't see a lot of play time here, and would rather see it in a home where it will. My collection has gotten to be a pretty tough crowd!
With the help of LTG's original enabler @Treem, this one arrived last week in good order, and needed only some minor tweaks from my luthier to get it 100% right. It would be a perfect gigging guitar as the electronics sound surprisingly good, and it's so pretty that it will make you look better playing it. I'm a sucker for bursts this nice, which is why I bought it, and it has all the qualities that a late Westerly build possesses.
The back sure is pretty, with some really nice figuring.
Action is as low as it can go right now at 5/64" on the bass side, and just a hair over 2/32" on the treble side. Real heavy strummers might even want to bring it up a little, but it plays beautifully, and suits my style just fine. Neck angle is great, and there is tons of room to bring the saddle down if the need arises.
Nice touches include an ebony fretboard and bridge, and an upgraded bone nut. Whoever installed the new nut was a tiny bit sloppy, but you have to look awfully close to see. Only other flaws I can find is some very minor finish checking on one side and one on the top. Both are really hard to see, and impossible to photograph. One other issue is the beginnings of a crack from the treble side of the fretboard extension to the soundhole. My luthier examined it and said it was stable and there was zero displacement, so there was no need for concern at this time. This photo actually makes it look way worse than it really is, and I include it only for full disclosure.
The seller installed new Grover Rotomatics that look basically unused.
Included is a non original but nice SKB case. All latches work, and there's no strange smells.
Note the arm extension in the reflection to keep it out of the BGUF thread!
Right now, I am into this guitar for $750, and that's what I would like to get out of it. I think that's a great value for a late Westerly build that is gig ready, and needs nothing. Shipping will be by insured FedEx Ground to the contiguous 48. Ask me about other places. Checks and money orders are always preferred, but we can discuss PayPal if necessary. I'll leave it here for a while before listing it elsewhere if there are no interested parties.
