I'm giving up (or at least pausing) my dream of being a 12-string player. I think it's a great guitar and there won't be any surprises. I just don't play it enough. If I try 12-string again, I'll go with the modern Guild neck shape. But I know some folks prefer these fatter necks on the older models. Please PM me if interested. Would be interested in trade for an Oxnard F-512E. Thanks!

Quite a few acoustic players who give up on 12 string guitar. I've been playing them for 40 years, and it surprises me that others don't try approaches that make it easier, such as tuning down a half or full step, lighter gauge strings, and the most helpful of all (for me), lower tension strings. A comfortable neck makes a huge difference, but that requires trying out a number of different brands of guitar.

By the way, I have a hard time believing those who claim that the setups on their 12 strings make them as easy to play as a 6 string. My 12 strings have superb setups, but I would never say they are as easy to play as my 6 strings. They are worth the extra effort!

All good points! For me, it's not about the difficulty in playing (although I prefer the neck profile of the modern Guilds). I've just not gravitated toward the 12-string sound for my style of singer/songwriter playing. Someone here said "twice the strings, half the notes". I've found that to be true for me. And, I'm envious of the singer/songwriters who make magic with the 12-string.
