1988 Guild GF-25, $700.
I’m offering my 1988 Guild GF-25 for sale here on the forum for $700. Looking to downsize the collection. No trades. Looking to sell locally for now (Hartford, CT) and avoid shipping.
It hurts to sell this one, but I’ve acquired too many acoustic guitars over the past few years. I’m selling this guitar because it just isn’t getting the playing time it deserves.
These guitars are highly regarded here on the forum. I was able to compare this guitar to a bunch of other quality acoustics when I bought it, and I chose this guitar over vintage Martins, other Guilds and Taylors. I’d say as far Guilds go, this one has more of Gibson-esque voice. Quite loud and very balanced across the strings. I currently have it set up with medium strings and it plays itself all the way up the neck. I find it great for flatpicking as well as fingerpicking, and the proportions and depth of this guitar make it very comfortable to play.
I call this one a Fixit (Tom Jacobs) special, because I sent it off to him for some restoration about a year after I purchased it. Tom performed a fret job and set up. He also refinished the top with nitrocellulose. The rest of the guitar has a nice satin finish, which I believe is unoriginal. Finally, he inlayed a beautiful Guild logo in the headstock (an original GF-25 would have a sticker type logo). The guitar comes with a TKL case in very good condition which provides a perfectly snug fit. Tom also installed a new bone nut and saddle.
This is a gorgeous instrument. The Sitka top has aged to a beautiful amber color. Anyone who’s played a guitar that Tom has worked on knows that he’s excellent with his setup work. I’ve left off the pickguard because I prefer the look without it, but will include the adhesive pickguard that came with the guitar.
So that’s the story. I have considerably more money into this guitar than what I’m selling it for. This guitar is modified, so someone looking for an unaltered GF-25 should look elsewhere. I would love to see this one stay in the LTG family. I’ve sold one other guitar here on the forum (a DV-52) and the buyer was very happy with the guitar and transaction. I also have some pictures of Tom’s restoration work if anyone is interested. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
