Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here (though I'm the original owner of a 1973 D25, my most irreplaceable instrument, so I've been a Guild owner for awhile), but I recently acquired a 1983 D15-12 which has a couple minor issues. First, I might like to replace the bridge pins (on both guitars; they seem to be plastic), and I want nice ones that fit. Second, some of the little buttons that seal up the backs of the tuners are gone, and I would like to seal those up with Guild-labeled buttons so it will look nice. It's a good guitar, and my dog's favorite, so I'd like to dress it up nice. Is Guild my best source, or is there someplace else? I'm in California.

Hey bek,
Don't know if you have been welcomed to LTG already. If not, welcome.

There have been a number of discussions re: bridge pins for Guilds. You can search, and find them. Some think replacing the (often plastic) original pins with Tusq or bone improves tone. Some don't. On the other hand... bone will probably wear better than plastic, which tends to deform over time. And bone pins can look better (than plastic or Tusq, IMO) The other issue is the size of pins to get. My six Guild dreads have come to me with 3 different pin sizes. If the ones you have in now fit, you could measure them to see what you need, and then order from any number of different sources. OTOH, I (and others) have had custom bone pins made by Gordon Orth. A set will cost ~$35 (that was the cost for the last set of bone I ordered), and they look and fit great. I keep a set of Tusqs around to use as temps, and send a couple pins from the set I wanted copied to Gordon... and usually have the new ones within a week-10 days. You can see examples of Gordon's pins in my Guilds via the link in my sig. PM if you would like Gordon's contact info.

I recommend Bob Colosi http://www.guitarsaddles.com/. He does nuts, saddles & bridge pins for almost all the folks over @ the AGF Forum and his customer service is stellar. He did the pins & nut (bone) for my Guild 12. He also has exotic materials avail. too (like buffalo horn & fossilized walrus ivory). Tell him Sharky from the AGF told you about him (no- I don't get a kickback- he's just that good).
