I have a 1977 Guild F50 BLD that I might be looking to sell. It has recently been set up and sounds wonderful, with plenty of saddle left as well. This guitar was once owned by the head of entertainment for British Airways. From what I understand he was also a musician and would play at BA events all around the world with whatever bands were hired for the events. So this guitar likely played with the biggest names back at the time. I suspect that’s where all the location stickers came from on the case. Only issue I can see is the finish checking, which I know some have issues with, it never bothered me and a little ding here or there. No cracks. I’m looking for $1999 plus shipping and am in the Northeastern US. It’s very reluctant that I want to sell it and if it doesn’t sell I definitely won’t be heartbroken!

I guess I really am a sick man. I just sold my '71 F 50 that was superb because I had two other F 50's. Now, I find myself lusting for this F 50. What the hell is wrong with me????
But I suspect you would’ve made a nice profit!

Nah, actually lost money which is pretty much par for the course for me. For spending 35 years in a Fortune 500 Company, and in a Finance position as well, I am a sorry excuse for a rational human being.

BTW, my goal is always just to break even on a sale (although I seldom do), unless I don't like you. Then it's rape and pillage time.

I meant I imagine yours sold for more than mine so you’d be ahead ;) But I know what you mean about taking a loss

Ok, I was wrong a little earlier- but now this is really the lowest I’m willing to go before I hold onto it. :)

I can recommend this guitar completely and without reservation -- it used to be mine!

I bought this from a woman in Glen Rock, NJ, eight years or so ago, whose husband had died several years before that. She was selling her house and moving into an apartment and needed to downsize.

Her husband had been the Activities Director for British Airways and a jazz guitarist.

One of his jobs was to book the entertainment for AA's annual business conferences, which were held in different countries every year (check out the various stickers on his guitar case). Since he loved jazz and since his budget was pretty much unlimited, he booked some very impressive players for the various conventions. His wife showed me framed photos and newspaper clippings hanging on the wall of what had been her husband's music room. One of the articles showed him accompanying Shirley ("Goldfinger") Bassey on this very guitar, another article mentioned Shirley Scott, and there were pics of him accompanying many other players (most I was unable to recognize), some of whom, she said, were members of Count Basie's big band.

He had two F50s -- this one and one from a decade or more later. This one stood head-and-shoulders over the other IMO. After trying them both and settling on this one, the woman selling it said it had been her husband's favorite of the pair too.

She gave me a glossy promo picture of her husband with his name on it, but I was unable to find it when I sold the guitar to Heath. It's somewhere!

If someone doesn't buy this by midnight tomorrow, I'm going to buy it back!

Not sure why I ever sold it -- Heath's personal charm may have had something to do with it!

Glenn

I love it. Had I'd seen this prior to throwing down on that F47m ( which looks pretty stellar - arrives tomorrow ) I'd be on this like flies on a canine waste deposit.. What a great story too!
