Earlier today I got to talking to a local teacher after I noticed that she had a very nice cherry D-25 acoustic.
That thing sounded soo sweet. Kinda like a rich chocolate milkshake. I never got the chance to play it myself, but it sounded very warm and musical.
I would've never guessed that anyone besides myself would happen to own a Guild guitar in a community of only 300+ people (I live way out in the middle of no where).

I got to talking to her as to where and how she acquired it. She told me that she had gotten it at Nashville, TN for only $500.00 about 9 years ago.
Now, what is the general opinion on this particular model?

Well, there's been lots of discussion here on this one. The D-25 is one of the more sought after Westerly Guilds (at least on this forum) which is interesting because it was their "entry level" acoustic for several years. I believe they also made more of these than any other model. Yeah, they sound great, of course, I'm biased :D

This could be a nice one. Keep in mind this is one of the all mahogany ones, it's going to sound a bit more subtle (so I've heard) than the arch-back spruce top models which came out in '74. (There were only a few with arched backs and mahogany tops during the transition) They then made some more in the early 80's that I would like to have one of, the D-15 and D-16 series, which were arched back with mahogany tops.

I was trying to figure out that carry case when I realized all the tolex had been torn off

(My D-25 case is not quite that bad, but its held together with bumper stickers)

Dread..

It is a D-25-M - serial 137692 - got it off of fleabay. Hope UPS doesn't destroy it...

My buddy has a 73 D-25-m that I always loved. Got my D-212-SB in 81 after getting sick of playing his and wanted a 12 string.

Fred, you are in for one sweet sweet surprise! Mine has serial # 124817, so our guitars are close siblings! My old girl is my pride and joy, and yours is going to make you very happy.

It's on the truck out for delivery!!!

Thought about staying home today to see it but thought better of it... First step - a thorough examination, new strings and clean up - then playing the night away!!

I'll post pictures later.

Sorry Guys - actually have been playing it quite a bit this weekend

First a little cleanup - guitar hadn't been played in a while. Followed some instructions about cleaning up from this site.

Then some new strings - light gauge Martin Marquis (.10-.47)

The guitar sounds just I like imagined it..

Here is the photo.

Yep, there she is! Congrats on the get! Does it need any work, do you think?

Yes it does need some more clean up and there is a small crack (nothing too bad) on the side. Overall it sounds great and plays pretty well - want to lower the action a touch.

Any recommendations to take it to?

Thanks Chicago...

Looked at the pictures on ebay - no crack evident. Contacted seller and he confirmed no crack - looks like ups issue. he is handling the claim.. :D
