Hi All

Here’s my 67 DE-400!

I’ve always wanted to grab a DE-500, to go with my love for X500’s but so far, the 400 is as close as I’ve got.

The DE-400 is for the most part a slimline X-175 and I view the DE-500, as a slimline X500. Not sure what you guys think?

I also love Westerly Guild SF2’s and the DE-400 reminds me more of those, than it does the Hoboken SF2/3’s

I’m not sure if the tail piece is original. I thought these came with Bigsby’s? I have seen examples with the same harp tail piece as mine has but the one on this guitar is very shiny and new looking.
I would appreciate any knowledge here.

I’ll post some more pics over the next few days when I get back in the studio.

That’s a beautiful guitar! I’m sure more expert people than me will chime in soon, but I’ll tell you what I found in The Guild Book. I believe you are correct that it should have a Guild vibrato (Guildsby) and metal bridge. It’s also unusual that it has the earlier style pickguard instead of the stair step style one. I bet it sounds and plays fantastic.

To be fair I’m likely only building in future embarrassment.
Showing off Guilds on a Guild forum is like buying a pack of chocolates to impress a girl who’s dad owns a chocolate factory.

Or something like that

The tailpiece could be original, but the answer might be on the label! The bridge is not a Guild bridge so that could be an indication that the guitar originally had a Bigsby. Did you look under the hinge to see if there are any signs of 'earlier' fastening screws?

The pickguard is a reissue pickguard from the '80s, but it looks good on the guitar, so I wouldn't worry about that!

Otherwise great looking guitar!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Welcome and that’s a beautiful DE-400! More pictures please. However, the problem I have is that it makes me start to GAS for that model and I start searching the net to buy one!

No it’s not like that here. We love Guild eye candy of all shapes and sizes. Bring it!
