The big brown truck showed up yesterday with a large package for me, no surprise here. My 1964 Mark V Maple from Utah arrived in New Hampshire safe and sound. Bought it on ebay, seller did a great job packing. It has beautiful graining on the back and sides of maple. The guitar has been used, but not abused. Someone got a lot of use out of the guitar and enjoyed it. The front has kind of a "Willie Nelson light" appearance to it, from pick wear. The neck also has finish wear, but you can tell someone loved this guitar for 50 odd years. I would like to know the story, in fact I may give the ebayer a call.

Being a fussy old bast rd, I like the guitars in pristine condition. I thought about having the top redone, but that wouldn't be right to do that to this guitar. I will probably have a pickup installed also.

Anyways, for your viewing pleasure:

Okay, Tom, when you finally realize it's not clean enough for a man of your discerning tastes, let get in line to buy it from you!

Of course, not too soon, I just about wiped out the $$$ in the cookie jar buying Walking Man's F47!

Congratulations Tom! I must admit I rather like the mojo on that guitar's top, and the maple back and sides are very pretty. Enjoy!

the maple is striking, really nicely done. i agree, leave the top as is. i bet it sounds fabulous. so a 1964, that means one of the 3 amigos worked on it, right? or was there just 1 guy that was focusing on classic guitars for Guild, I forget. Anyway, congrats!

She's a beaut! That almost looks like fingernail wear, rather than pic marks (like on my MK II.) I say leave it as is and go flamenco!

Thanks walrus and Sandy. The back and the sides are beautiful. But the top adds to the package.

Harry you have the right of first refusal, My cookie jar is empty right now also. It was in pretty good shape, after I sold one of my non Guilds, for about a day.

Congrats!

Can you compare and contrast for us the tonal differences between all of your Marks?

I will get to that, good idea. I know the Mark VI is my favorite, then after that it's a dog fight.

Carlos probably oversaw the operation, but who knows who built it, maybe the amigos did, thanks.

Chris, you are observant, very observant. I talked to the guy I bought it from. He owned it from 1994 and is a flamenco player. So that explains the scratches etc.

Now, if I spent 1/2 the time practicing, as I do on ebay and CL, people would be paying to see me play. ha ha. But I guess the hunt is half the fun. I'm content in being an intermediate player, period.

Wow, that's a BEAUTY, Tom!! That MAPLE!! Jeeze..... And I'm with you on the "content being an intermediate player" thing. No one expects much and they're so pleased when I can actually play something!! LOL!! :encouragement:
