Only thing I'm finding in Hans book is spruce top, maple laminate b/s, 17" wide single cutaway, 2 pickups & nickel hardware. Nothing else until you get into the 60's DE models.

Let us know how it turns out! I'd like to see it!

Hello rogersguy,

Have a couple of minutes to come in while checking my mail.
Haven't seen the guitar so I do not know what we're talking about.
If you say it's a 1955 X-400 it will probably not conform to the early X-400 specifications, because by 1955 Guild had already established it's model designations and the line did not include the X-400 any longer.
All the X-400s (and X-440s for that matter) that have later than 1954 serial numbers were put together with older X-400 superstructures but with the hardware from later models. Consequently most of the later X-400s are not identical.

The X-400 was similar to the later X-175 but with different materials and hardware. They both had a laminated spruce top though!

I believe John Kidder had one of these 'later' X-400/440s but if I remember correctly, his guitar had a few parts changed on it.

Try to post a photo if you can! Do you have a serial number?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans, thanks for replying. I'll see the guitar tomorrow. i think the guild tail piece thats on it is wrong. its the more fancy one thats on the higher end guilds like a x-500. everything else looks right. I'll send pix tomorrow night.if the guitar is pretty clean and original except for the tailpiece, what should i expect to pay for this baby?? thanks again, larry

About 15 years ago I had a sunbust X400/440 with blacl pop covers. Sorry, no pics or serial number. I hear it wound up with Ted Greene.

So what is in your inventory at the moment Darryl?

And welcome back, BTW. :D
