Always.Gosh it’s exquisite. Made in NYC. Arched back too?
Actually, not true. There was at least one early-60's F-50 we've seen that was flat-backed. But, yup, this one is an arched-back.Always.
Ahhh..but those were F50R's, Rosewood bodies, no? . Otherwise it had to be a Special. (Waiting to be Hans'd, lol!) (Or Ralf'd.)Actually, not true. There was at least one early-60's F-50 we've seen that was flat-backed. But, yup, this one is an arched-back.
No. Flat-backed maple.Ahhh..but those were F50R's, Rosewood bodies, no? . Otherwise it had to be a Special. (Waiting to be Hans'd, lol!) (Or Ralf'd.)
"Shocked". Still think it must have been a "Special", though. Even checked "the book" before I posted, just to make sure I hadn't missed something I'd forgotten, like first-years being flat. Of course sightings since then constitute "new info", but it sure has my curiosity up.No. Flat-backed maple.
Yes, it appears to be in VG condition, those rounded block inlays are very early, so I dunno....when I see some asking prices for other guitars it don't seem all that far out of line in the current market. Assuming final price would be discounted to some degree as well.Man, I would surely love to own this but it just ain't gonna happen.
Just remembered, that must be the at-least-one oddball they always built, just because they could.No. Flat-backed maple.

Think this might be like one of those pieces we all wish we'd bought ten years or maybe even 5 years ago, but that's wishful thinking about the investment value of Guilds again.. But if there's an investment grade Guild, an early F50 in VG or VVG condition would surely fit the bill.
And Rich if anybody here was deserving of at least fostering that baby for a while it'd be you. And maybe Awagner, or Fixit, or even GAD....
or...Chaz?
Actually even if money was no object I'd still take a pass at that puppy and figure out where she'd sleep when she got here. And that's a first for me. First year first Guild flattop model, arched back maple, I want it bad. Even with the long scale. Oh wait, what's the nut width?
No matter. I'd gladly foster her and play her gently with bare fingers to honor her (hopefully) original finish, just to hear those lovely voices. I'd even try Silk'n'steels on her.
Somebody just shoot me....please.
PS When I bought my F65ce it was more than I'd ever spent on a car in my life...it was big shift in perspective for me. And yeah I did think it might be an investment grade instrument, partly because due to store signage I thought it was the last guitar built in Westerly. But I mis-interpreted the signage. Close, but no cigar.
Anyway it's probably good for around 2 grand in the market right now, having cost me $1699.00 out-the-door as closeout/NOS in '02. ($2299.00 '01 list price).
A partridge in a crab apple tree?If my tree only grew money instead of crab apples but then the partridge would be unhappy
I don't think I can recall a time when you had G.A.S. so bad!Somebody just shoot me....please.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the crab apple tree, Richard.Sigh..... If my tree only grew money instead of crab apples but then the partridge would be unhappy so I guess I'm good the way it is.
Are you sure Charlie? I don't see any bracing.No. Flat-backed maple.
