My first contact with the Guild company happened when I was 13...I bought a book to learn guitar and there were very exaustive descriptions of various guitars, how they were made, and the main brands.

For Guild,it was said that they built the best 12 string guitars and they presented the F-512 as their top model, a normal F-512 but...with a florentine cutaway. So far, I havent' seen around many of these, besides Howie's instrument. Are they rare today? When they were made? Any member got one?

I've heard of Guild 12ers with Florentine cutaway, I've seen maybe one or two and others in photos, but never an F-512. It may have been a special order option but if Florentine cutaway F-512s were ever a regular production model it's news to me. There was an F-212 CR (cutaway, rosewood) which I think had 512 bling but was only 16" across rather than 17".

I think Scratch has a Guild cutaway 12er of some kind.

I'm with Strang. Not saying one doesn't exist, but I've never heard of one...

Custom order perhaps?Do they still accept custom orders?

As I understand, the New Hartford facility is cranking out pretty much the same line as offered from the Tacoma facility minus the contemporary series. To the best of my knowledge, custom orders were not honored at the Tacoma plant. There are others more knowledgeable than I on this, but I think the old Westerly RI facility did some custom stuff and via Gruhn/Nashville. Experts will arrive shortly...

That wouldn't be me, but from the website it looks like such things as 412s and 512s are in New Hartford's future. Custom orders may not be practical until they're in full swing but I find myself to be a bit more cautiously optomistic than I have been for quite a while. Anyone notice the Guild ad in ag?

I know there were some "customs" at NAMM this year, with cocobolo headstocks. They were for dealers, if I recall correctly what Jane told us. I don't know if these were customized at the factory in Tacoma or at the repair/custom-shop in Nashville. I suspect they were done in Tacoma (I recall Jane told us the labels were all Tacoma).

I don't think there was any custom-order stuff (a la Taylor's built-to-order program) that mere mortals could participate in though. Nothing like a cutaway.

I think we're all interested in what New Hartford may choose to do with the Traditional 12s, based on their enormous 12-string experience. Here's hoping!... :)

Greetings,
I have a 1978 Guild F212 sunburst with a Florentine cutaway.
Unfortunately, I'm a novice in this forum and don't know how to attach photos, but I'll give it a try:

Nels, that's a beauty! Looks to be in fantastic shape!

You sure don't see a lot of these. I can't recall if I've ever seen another sunburst F-212 with a cutaway.

The guitar I'm talking about is like Howie's:

This is clearly a 512 with a cutawat, not a 212...
