There’s some Starfire XII available in a couple places right now I think, GC and Retrofret.

I have owned a gazillion and down to four...After trying one, I kinda liked that new Squier Jazzmaster 12....that's if your not into handing over lotsa dough. A lot depends on what sound your after/playability and of course, most importantly...how we look playing stadiums. haha

I have an electric 12 that's got a wide fingerboard, and it throws me off playing a C Sharp Minor chord without looking, over a regular 6 string fingerboard, also partial to the Rick string arrangement, bass/octave, vs the other way around.

And then there's the jangle factor.

I had a Dano Hodad similar to this that I sold to our lead guitarist when I bought my Starfire XII 5 years ago.
I should have kept it, as with the "Select-O-Matic" knob it had the ability to sound as jangly as a Rick but
with a much nicer width for the fingerboard. I still have a Hodad bass and baritone; Mosrite body style and
they weigh next to nothing. The 12 and the baritone were Korean from around 2000, the bass was made around 2014.
After paying a whopping $1400 for the Starfire I felt guilty and thought I should do something to offset the cost.
The Starfire sounded so good that I actually prefer it to the sound of most Rickenbackers now. I haven't heard
in person the little Anti-hums on a 6 string, but on my XII they're magical. I'm sure the modern Danelectro
12s are still great, but I don't think they make a 3 PU model with that selector knob.

I agree, a lot of value and playability on those hodads. There's one on GC listed as "great" condition for 500 bucks right now! https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/D...y-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP

I have a DC-59-12 Danelectro. Nice feel, pretty good sound, great price.

Starfire XII was my first good guitar. Emerald green, 67. It had issues … but the SOUND. OMG. I tried Ric’s and they sound great but the nut width is tough for me. When the economy collapses I will get a vintage SF XII.

There aren't many out there but the Hamer Eclipse 12 has the right sound and playability at the right price.
I recently got a Hamer Eclipse 12 and really like it. I really don’t care for wide nut widths, I can understand why people do want them on a 12 string though.
My other choices I wanted were the D’Angelico Premier DC 12 which I loved, the Squier Jazzmaster 12 which I really liked, and the Rivolta Combinata 12 which I haven’t been able to play. Also, the Nash T-12 might be a good contender but I’m not sure how I feel about 12 strings on 3 Tele barrels.

It's 'right sized.' Not a pencil like a Rick, or an aircraft carrier either. The bridge pickup is a little hotter than I'd like-they used the same pickup as the six string version. Replaced that with a Duncan Antiquity. With both pickups on, it nails the electric 12-string sound everyone knows and loves.

Welcome!
