Because buying an electric 12-string would have been too easy.

"It worked for me."

I'm surprised whoever did this was able to get all 12 strings to fit a six-string neck / nut.

Guild did it with a SF12 and it is a difficult instrument to play in the open position for my hands but great when playing up higher on the neck.

Well, if only he used slotted pegs, the solid ones just blow it for me.
Yeah, right. Fenderstein?

That Gibson modification is just flat-out wonderful -- I love it! People are amazing, even (or especially) when they're outrageous!

Bluesman Big Joe Williams played a "nine-string" Harmony Sovereign that he modified similarly:

(Love the cigarette between the second and third fingers of Big Joe's picking hand!)

I have several of his Big Joe's albums, but didn't know he also had a Gibson, and that the Gibson posted here was his!

If there are any MIke Bloomfield, or Big Joe, fans here -- or anyone who just wants a good read -- Bloomfield's essay, "Me and Big Joe," is a must. (My version is complemented by R. Crumb's illustrations.)

Can of worms here. To me, there's nothing easy about buying a 12 string electric.

I don't have a problem with the 12 string Strat at all and I own the same vintage Strat and I love the big headstock, and as we can see here it has the room to do it.

Masterful work in fact, couldn't have been done better.

I think Leo would be impressed.

The choice of 12 string electrics remains the same, horrible cheapies and really expensive Ricky's ;] Nice rhyme.

Not only that but the sonic choices are limited.

I have a Hondo Fame 612 with vintage Strat p'ups, it's fantastic actually, and I'm lucky to have it because it has improvements over some other guitars, strung like a Ricky, so not like a Fender, also the Gibson type bridge/tailpiece, innovative, and factory baby Grovers, this is a killer guitar, and rare.

Speaking of sonic choices, this guitar is semi famous by way of going on the Evol tour with Sonic Youth back in the 80's, but that one had the two humbuckers, not for me, but this three pickup version is sweet. Candy Apple Red kinda grows on you after a while.

Anyway, I now realize I haven't changed strings on it in a while, Slinkies here we come ;] I've been fooling around with a DGCGCD tuning that might be nice on the 12 string.
